WCHS takes on French flair at prom

A little of Paris, France came to Warren County High School Friday, as the senior class chose “Paris, je t’aime” as its prom theme. The prom committee made a valiant effort to bring Paris to their school gymnasium, utilizing a huge lit Eiffel Tower serving as a grand entrance for attendees to pass under. Smaller towers were placed on each table, with guests receiving a take-home mug with the theme printed in gold. A sparkling fountain at the entrance made everyone feel welcome.
“The prom committee threw out several ideas for the prom, and then the class voted on the theme they wanted to use,” said sponsor Kari Burnett. “It means Paris, I love you.”
Paris is a city of light, lovers, art and beauty, and the gym was beautifully transformed to accommodate a night of fun and memory making for the guests.
Over 450 tickets were sold for the event, with the move from the Civic Center to the high school going well.
“It has worked out,” said Burnett. “The move did pose some different challenges, but the students decided this was their house, and they would embrace that fact.”
Students arrived in several different modes of transportation, everything from the family car, to a Hummer limousine. The popular party bus made an appearance, as well as more than one stretch limo.
Some high school seniors enjoyed a different ride, as they were transported on a school bus provided by Durham School Services. The interior of the bus was transformed, with clear lights strung down the aisle, black and gold seat coverings, as well as decorative streamers, adding to the party mood.
Durham chose two students to sponsor for the night, in an effort to make their night more memorable.
Sheri Layne, Durham general manager, spearheaded the project, getting dresses for the girls, making sure they had appointments for hair and nails, provided prom tickets, and even took them out to dinner prior to the prom.
“This is the second year we have done this for these students,” said Layne. “It’s the best part of our job, and we enjoy taking part in the community and making it a special night.”
The night was even more special for seniors Jade Hankal and Jacob Acre, who were crowned Prom King and Queen. After being chosen by their peers, they were crowned by the previous royalty Christian Taylor and Kindra Brabson.
Dancing was a big part of the night, with a disc jockey playing all their favorite songs. The prom song was “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran, and the colors were gold, yellow and white.
Prom prophecies are always a hit with the students, with this year’s read by Jett Urtubees, Chayse Frye, Allie Golden and Lauren Judkins.
More memories were relived as photographs from their school years were presented in a video, adding to the close of the memorable night.
