Reliving memories with items from the past are, from left, Curtis Barnes with a churn, and Ronnie Crowe with a flour sifter. The exhibit was made possible by volunteer Glenell Cantrell.

All kinds of fun activities have been going on at NHC Healthcare in recent months, ranging from an antique show to trick or treating with dogs.
Residents always enjoy a trip to the county fair, and this year they were treated to a carnival at the center. The fun day was complete with games, cotton candy and a visit from a clown. The fall classic activities of cookouts and hayrides were also experienced by residents who traveled to the home of Lee and Teresa Hennessee.
“We try to have a variety of functions for our folks,” said activity director Amanda Sain. “I love an opportunity to offer events that are first, or once-in-a-lifetime events.”
One of those moments was a visit from DLG Livestock with them bringing a camel to the center.
“We talked and talked about the camel coming, with many of our patients skeptical that it would be real,” said Sain. “But did their jaws hit the floor when it walked through the door? It was awesome.”
Representatives from the Little Big Sound Record Shop have started coming monthly and holding a vinyl record concert. Music fills the center and breathes new life to those who hear.
A Willy Wonka Theme Day was the brainchild of activity assistant Angie Davenport. She created a lovely display in the activity room, and set up a viewing of the Gene Wilder classic movie. Residents also enjoyed a chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallows.
Volunteer Glenell Cantrell planned and executed an antique show, bringing a large assortment of items for viewing. She shared items from each part of the home including crocheted doilies, wood bread bowl and quilts.
Closing out the month of activities was the Canine Trick or Treat, an activity enjoyed at NHC for several years. Patients’ families and partners dress their dogs for the holiday and bring them to the center to trick or treat. Patients prepared for the day by stuffing treat bags with bones and treats for the 20 furry guests.
