It's time to sign up for fair pageants

Applications are now available for upcoming pageants, Fairest of the Fair, and Preteen Fairest, taking place during the annual Warren County A&L Fair.
The Preteen event is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 5 for girls between the ages of 10 and 12 years old. Contestants must be a resident of Warren County for at least six months, and attend school in Warren County.
A $25 registration fee is required for competition. Chrystal Patton is the chairperson, and can be contacted at 607-0618.
Taylor Turner is the reigning queen, and is expected to crown her successor.
The Fairest of the Fair competition will be held Monday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at the fair grandstand. The pageant is open to girls who have reached their 16th birthday, but not her 21st birthday by Dec. 31.
Registration fee is $25, with judges selecting a winner, first-, second- and third runner-up.  The queen will represent Warren County in Tennessee’s Fairest of the Fair contest in January.  She will also receive a $1,500 scholarship presented by River Park Hospital to be used at a college of her choice.
The reigning Fairest of the Fair is Melanie Rush.
Applications for both pageants are available at Kathy’s Bridal, Tan-4-U, Merle Norman Cosmetics, Southern Standard and Warren County High School.  Completed applications for both will be accepted Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m.; and Aug. 18 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Caney Fork Electric Coop auditorium.  No applications will be accepted after this date.

Christmas spirit on parade

Rob Nunley photo The Morrison Elementary Cheerleaders won both the school sponsored division and the people's choice award at Saturday's McMinnville Christmas Parade.

The McMinnville Christmas Parade was held Saturday, featuring 107 entries and lasting approximately one hour. Winning in the business category were Ben Lomand Connect, first place; Prater's BBQ, second. 

Church/civic group/community organization/large non-profit winners were Warren County Sheriff's Office, first; The Vine Baptist Church, second; and Smartt Assembly of God, third. 

School sponsored winners were Morrison Cheerleaders, first place and people's choice award winners; Motlow State Community College, second; and F.C. Boyd Christian School, third.

Small club/non-profit winners were Girl Scout Troop 839, first; Ride N Drive Club, second; and McMinnville Saddle Club, third.

Horse rider club/mule or horse and hitch winners were Saddle Club, first; and Bruce Bush, second.

Antique car winners were Ride N Drive Club, first; Ryan J. Moore, second; and Frank Bond, third.

Most Unusual Vehicle winners were Ride N Drive Club, first; Donald Schott, second; and Tom Davis for Congress, third.

Winning the best band category was the Warren County High School Marching Band.
