Hickory Creek FCEC met March 1 for the regular monthly meeting in the Magnolia Room. The meeting was called to order by President Vicki Gibbs at 10 a.m. She welcomed new member Paula Hillis and guest Alda Bandy, Lori Yates and Kaydence Tanner. Chaplain Ann Whitman read an article from the “House to House Heart to Heart” publication titled “Walking the Dog.” We were led in the pledge to the flag by Gibbs.
Secretary Phyllis Hillis was asked to call roll. The 14 members and guest named their favorite flowering tree. The minutes from the February meeting were read and approved. The treasurer report was given by Brenda Clark
Vice president Davis asked for member reports and demonstrations. Special projects leader Martha McBride gave everyone a 2018 calendar of events. As for demonstrations, Janis Darnaby gave everyone an Easter chicken made from card stock and held a piece of candy. She also showed pictures of a spring door wreath she had made. Pam Duff and Brenda Clark showed the baskets they made in Crafting Then and Now class. Pam also showed a reusable shopping bag made of felt and matching shawl, mittens and scarf made from a blanket. Vicki had a baby blanket that she made.
Irene Fuston brought a copy of the 1936-1990 “Official History of FCE” that was very interesting. Book reports were given by Gibbs on Dr. Ming Wang’s book “From Darkness to Sight,” and Tina Ramsey reported on “We’re all Wounded” by Debbie Kea.
McBride asked for hours worked by members for state and club projects. Gibbs presented Operation Christmas Child - Samaritan’s Purse and Waldron Missions to think about as service projects. Four members attended the February Crafting Then and Now. Visitation day was March 13, with everyone bringing food and a guest.
McBride attended a meeting concerning guidelines for Best of Best nominations. Marian Jacobs was nominated by Irene Fuston and the club members approved.
President Gibbs talked about A&R Day on April 12 that was held in the Magnolia Room at the Administration Building. Our summer outing will be in July, with President Gibbs sharing info about Polly Claire’s tearoom in Chattanooga. Members celebrating birthdays in March are Vicki Gibbs and Carolyn Belcher.
Upcoming events to remember include the National Cornbread Festival in South Pittsburg April 28-29, and Spring Rally in Grundy County April 30. Everyone took a few minutes to update gold star sheets in their yearbook. Remember to continue logging CVU’s, hours spent on state projects and collecting drink can tabs for the state project.
The meeting was adjourned, with members enjoying a soup tasting and swap.
