From a male beauty pageant to games in every room on their new campus, the Dibrell Fall Festival drew hundreds to the annual event.
“I can safely say there was 100 percent participation,” said Dibrell PTO president Wanda Cantrell concerning involvement by teachers and staff at the annual fundraiser. “Every teacher had a game in their room.”
This year’s proceeds are earmarked for a new playground structured toward the upper grades at the school.
“Right now they have nothing,” Cantrell said.
At last total, the PTO believes it raised around $13,000 during the festival.
The event drew hundreds and featured a variety of activities. Along with games in every room there were also things like face painting and spray-paint hair coloring that drew many students. There was also a cake walk in the gym and a barbecue supper.
The highlight was the male beauty pageant which was held before a packed house in the Dibrell gym. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder as the show featured adult men dressed as their favorite female performers, singing and dancing to hits. Beauty was one word that didn’t describe this pageant.
“Oh my,” gasped one woman in the audience as the first performer began gyrating to the music.
Cantrell said it was the 100 percent participation and that of volunteer parents who helped raise so much money this year toward building the playground.
