A local man has died from injuries he sustained in a head-on crash on Woodbury Mountain last Sunday, a wreck that also claimed the life of a Cannon County teen.Frederick McClure, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Sunday afternoon crash while Thomas Brewer, 69, of McMinnville died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Tuesday. He was airlifted there from the scene of the accident last Sunday by LifeFlight helicopter and remained under treatment until the time of his death. The wreck happened on the mountain just outside Woodbury city limits heading toward McMinnville when the teen’s 2003 Chevy Cavalier slammed into the oncoming 2011 Chevy Silverado driven by Brewer.According to Highway Patrolman Tony Myers, McClure was in the eastbound lane, heading toward Woodbury, when he crossed the centerline and ran into the path of the oncoming pickup.Authorities believe McClure’s inexperience behind the wheel may have played a factor in the fatal crash. The wreck happened in a dangerous curve located near what is now a vacant package store on the McMinnville side of Woodbury about midway up the mountain. It was not on the new four-lane stretch of highway that was recently completed.
