Woman jailed for trying to shoot deputy

A woman who tried to steal a deputy’s car following a high-speed chase – and nearly shot him with his own gun – will serve a year in jail.The woman, Lori R. Mayo, 38, entered guilty pleas before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment with a vehicle, and DUI. She was ordered to serve 364 days of an eight-year sentence, pay $400 plus costs, lose her driver license for one year, and perform 32 hours public service work.Mayo was charged after a motorist reported seeing her driving erratically in her Nissan Altima on Sparta Highway. When deputies arrived in the area, Mayo reportedly took off at high speeds, driving on the wrong side of the four-lane highway in an attempt to evade capture. She was forced onto the median by pursuing officers fearing she would hit someone head-on.Mayo’s vehicle became stuck, prompting her to bail out of her car and run away on foot.
