Woman avoids jail for bat attack

A woman who broke another woman’s arm with a baseball bat will serve no jail time.The bat wielder, Sonya Pendergraph, 25, entered a no-contest plea before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to the charge of aggravated assault and separate charges of theft and simple assault. She was granted a four-year judicial diversion for the crimes meaning she will be on probation for four years and at the end of that time can have her criminal record erased if she gets into no further trouble and abides by the rules of her probation. She must also make $5,000 restitution.According to the arrest warrant against Pendergraph filed by the victim, Rebecca Saitta, the incident happened at Westside Manor Apartments.“The attack was unprovoked,” Saitta swore to the judicial commissioner concerning her being hit multiple times with an aluminum baseball bat.Police responded to the scene and arrested Pendergraph for disorderly conduct.
