Failure to yield is being cited as the cause of a Manchester Highway wreck.
According to state trooper Richard Teachout, Friday’s 1:45 p.m. wreck involved two Manchester residents: Mary Fox, 87, who was driving a 2011 white Nissan Sentra, and Anthony Dickerson, 25, who was driving a 2008 black Nissan Altima.
“Mrs. Fox pulled from the new Family Dollar, Dollar Tree and went eastbound on Highway 55, which is inbound,” said Teachout.
She exited the business, crossed two driving lanes and a center lane, and into the path of Dickerson.
“He was traveling inbound in the fast lane,” said Teachout.
His Altima struck her Sentra. The impact forced both vehicles off the roadway and into a ditch.
The damage to Fox’s vehicle was on the front passenger side.
“She was transported to Ascension Saint Thomas River Park with minor injuries,” said Teachout. “She was lucky that the impact was on her passenger side. If she had pulled into outbound traffic and that impact had occurred on her driver’s side, I’m not sure someone who is 87 years old would have survived.”
Dickerson was reportedly uninjured.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Fox was cited for failure to yield and having an expired driver’s license, while Dickerson was cited for failure to provide proof of insurance.
