A wheel thief got probation after lawmen found him driving around with the stolen tires and wheels on his car.
The defendant, Gabriel Jacob Isaac, entered guilty pleas before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to charges of aggravated burglary and grand theft. He was granted a three-year judicial diversion and was ordered to perform 40 hours public service work and make restitution to the victim. The diversion means he can have his criminal record erased if he gets in no further trouble during his three years on probation.
His co-defendant, Sean David Michael Perry, also received a judicial diversion on the same charges but his diversion will last for four years.
The two were sentenced for the burglary of a residence on McCormick Lane in July.
The homeowner reported someone had been at his house and had taken numerous items including a 2001 Honda four-wheeler, four Mustang wheels and tires, and other items. The total haul was estimated at $3,214.
Sheriff’s investigator Steven Carpenter was able to develop Isaac and others as suspects. Isaac admitted to going into the house and carrying items out. However, the smoking gun was when officers found the wheels and tires taken during the burglary on Isaac’s car.
A third suspect, Troy L. Rice, is set for hearing on his part of the case Feb. 25.
