Water rate increase put on hold

A proposal before McMinnville officials to increase water and sewer rates annually has been put on hold for six months.“The reason I’m doing this is because I believe 2 percent is an easier pill to swallow instead of a 19 or 30 percent rate increase,” said Alderman Jimmy Bonner during a Water and Sewer Committee meeting. “I’ve had a lot of people tell me they like this idea.”Bonner’s proposal was for a 1.5 percent increase annually for all water and sewer customers.“Some communities do this,” said city administrator Bill Brock. “They do a 1 percent or a 1.5 percent increase annually for four to five years.
