Van Buren Co. to name new sheriff in May
Commission will appoint to 2-year term

Eight people have picked up papers hoping to become Van Buren County’s next sheriff, a decision the Van Buren County Commission will make when it meets May 21.The position is open with the unexpected death of Sheriff Grayson Beasley, who died from a heart attack last month. He was about halfway through his four-year term when he died, meaning the County Commission’s selection as his successor will serve until the regular election in two years. Chief deputy Jeff Vandagriff is serving as interim sheriff pending the selection.Wayne Drake, administrative assistant to the Van Buren County mayor, said petitions for the sheriff’s job will be available through their office until April 16.
