Unruly bus riders could find themselves caught on camera

Students who act up on school buses may now find their misdeeds playing in a video before their principal.
Thanks to new technology in some of our school buses, bus drivers can cut and paste video from their surveillance systems. The ability is especially good in alerting school officials to bad behavior on buses.
According to Sherry Lane of Durham School Services, the local fleet has 15 new cameras that are able to provide the video footage. She explained the video can be viewed and the part capturing the offending student can be cut and pasted onto an email which can then be sent to the school.
The technology, she noted, saves time for bus personnel, plus it provides video proof to school officials. School officials would then be able to render discipline for the actions without inconveniencing the bus drivers.
The cut and paste capability is one of the things Lane revealed to the Warren County School Board recently in her regular briefing about the bus system.
She noted things have gone smoothly thus far this school year and some routes were tweaked to make them more efficient.
“I’ve had zero calls from parents,” said Director of Schools Bobby Cox concerning the smoothness of this year’s bus system and its 54 routes.
One source of pride, Lane noted, are two new air conditioned buses added to the fleet this year. The buses also have luggage storage compartments underneath and were recently used by the band for a trip to Atlanta.
