A surprisingly small field has emerged thus far in the race for what will be the vacant state senate spot once held for over 20 years by Jerry Cooper.With qualifying deadline falling at noon April 5, two Republicans, both with a history of seeking office, have thrown their hats in the political arena. For the Republicans, Ron Stoltzfus of Winchester and Janice Bowling of Tullahoma is seeking the office. Stoltzfus has sought the state senate spot before while Bowling twice fell short in her attempts to be elected to U.S. Congress from the Fourth District.The election comes as incumbent state Sen. Eric Stewart has announced he will not run for re-election, instead opting to run against freshman incumbent U.S. Congressman Scott Desjarlais for the Fourth District spot.
