A body of a Memphis man who drowned Sunday in the water beneath Great Falls at Rock Island was pulled from the depths early Monday afternoon capping a two-day dragging operation.
The 22-year-old University of Tennessee student disappeared late Sunday afternoon while he and friends were swimming. Witnesses said the victim went underwater and never came back up. They reported him missing and a massive dragging operation began around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Unable to locate the swimmer, rescuers called off the mission due to darkness but resumed their efforts early Monday. They were able to find his remains around 1:30 p.m. Monday beneath the falls.
The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
