TULLAHOMA (AP) — The state is pulling inmates from the overcrowded and de-certified Coffee County Jail.
Sheriff Steve Graves told The Tullahoma News that 28 state inmates were picked up Monday and another five will be picked up later this week.
Graves said the county jail was designed to house 196 inmates but on Friday it had 254, some of whom had to sleep on the floor.
Graves said the reduction will help with the overcrowding, but the county will also lose the money it has been earning for housing state prisoners.
