FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say the lone male pilot of a small plane has died after his amateur-built aircraft hit some trees and crashed near a home south of Nashville. Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Long says a nearby resident tried unsuccessfully to revive the pilot. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the amateur-built Zodiac 601XL struck some trees before crashing about 1 p.m. Thursday in a field in the small community of Thompson's Station.
