MIDDLETON, Tenn. (AP) — A woman has died in a fire at a Middleton house.

Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen tells the Jackson Sun (http://bit.ly/1q5kZ5O) that a woman died in the house fire, which was reported around 2 a.m. Wednesday. The woman's name has not been released.

Doolen says responders arrived at the house just outside Middleton to find it fully engulfed in flames.

Two children were able to escape through a bedroom window and were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. The children have been released to their parents.

Doolen says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Middleton Fire Chief Tommy Seever says nothing on the scene indicates foul play, but nothing can be ruled out at this stage of the investigation.
