CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Chattanooga officials are making a push to train more people for jobs that are expected to be coming to the city.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/1M2Iktl ) city government officials launched a job skills training initiative this month.

Lurone "Coach" Jennings, administrator of the city's Youth and Family Development Department, says they're offering the training to as many people as possible, including those who are homeless or have felony records.

In December 2015, Chattanooga's unemployment rate was about 5.2 percent, just slightly above the national average of 5 percent.

Dr. David Banks, the city's director of career development, works to help people with no or few job skills get ready for work. His goal is to partner with nonprofit groups that are already serving people who need jobs.
