NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Gov. Bill Haslam and his wife, Crissy, are scheduled to light the state Capitol Christmas tree on Monday evening.
The 40-foot Norway spruce was brought to the capitol from the Hermitage neighborhood of Nashville.
The event is open to the public and attendees are encouraged to bring clothing items to donate to the Tennessee children in foster care and books to support the state's Read to Be Ready literacy campaign.
The event will include horse-drawn carriage rides, a visit from Santa Claus and music by the 129th Army Band of the Tennessee Army National Guard.
