A Warren County High School senior remains hospitalized after he crashed his pickup in DeKalb County on Easter Sunday.
Collin Smedley, 18, of McMinnville was airlifted following the single-vehicle crash Sunday morning. Smedley was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
State trooper Chris Delong told WJLE in DeKalb County that Smedley was traveling on Belk Road and was heading toward Warren County when the accident took place. Smedley’s 2006 Nissan Titan pickup reportedly left the two-lane road for unknown reasons, struck an embankment, and hit a utility pole. The impact was great enough to snap the utility pole.
The pickup then went back across the road and came to rest in the opposite direction. The brunt of the damage was to the driver’s side of the vehicle near the driver’s seat.
Smedley was transported via ambulance to a landing zone which was set up near New Union the Baptist Church.
Smedley was recently honored at WCHS as being in the top 10 percent in the class of 2015.
