Every school in Warren County will soon have an armed officer patrolling its campus as the Board of Education has voted to fund extra school resource officers.“We can pull the money out of fund balance for six more SROs to get the ball rolling,” said Director of Schools Bobby Cox during Thursday night’s meeting of the Warren County Board of Education. The decision to fund the additional safety officers comes after Warren County schools were rejected for a five-year grant worth $1.2 million. That would have funded officers at the six schools without SROs.“We were hopeful we would get the funding,” said Cox, noting the denial of the over $200,000 in annual federal money means the school system and county government are on their own when it comes to funding the extra officers. “I’ll be interested to see that critique to find out why they turned us down.”Cox said there is money in fund balance to pay for the six officers for the short term, but that county government would be needed in the future to help with the six-figure expenditure.
