School starts smoothly
WCMS eighth-graders Harley Herriman, left, and Deziree Deters enjoy goofing around in the cafeteria with orange slices Friday during the first day of school.

The first day of school Friday came and went as quietly as a library.
There were no major events to report as Warren County students returned to classrooms around the county in routine fashion.
"I visited every school today and the startup went great with no major issues," said Director of Schools Bobby Cox. "I appreciate the patience of everyone on day one and continued patience for the first few days. It was good to see all the smiling faces of our students and teachers and I look forward to a great school year."
As far as enrollment numbers, the school system is about 400 students off its mark at the end of school last year. Cox said that is customary as enrollment seems to steadily increase over the first 10 days.
After the first day last year, the school system had 6,278 students. The biggest decrease came at the high school. There were 1,764 students at WCHS after the first day last year.
