A burglary spree continues to plague the community as more businesses were targeted over the weekend, including a local industry which discovered it had been victimized Tuesday. One of the burglaries was apparent as a rock was thrown through glass to gain access to the Subway on Highway 55 near Morrison. Another burglary, at Helton Plastics Inc., wasn’t discovered until Tuesday when the perpetrators tried to cash stolen checks at the First National Bank branch next to Three Star Mall.“They cashed one check for $900 and were trying to cash another one when the bank teller got suspicious and called us,” said Steven Helton, sales manager for Helton Inc. “When she made the call, they ran out the door, but they still got away with $900.“The thieves were sneaky about how they did this.
