A man who beat and terrorized his girlfriend has been sentenced to three years in prison.
The defendant, Blake Campbell Raper, 28, entered a best-interest plea before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to the charge of aggravated assault and vandalism. In addition to the three years he received for those two offenses, he was also directed to serve the balance of his remaining sentence for violating his probation for facilitating the delivery of drugs.
Investigators say Raper both injured his girlfriend and threatened to kill her.
“He hit her about the face, choking her to the point of passing out,” said sheriff’s investigator Travis Thaxton, noting the woman had to go to River Park Hospital for treatment of her injuries. “He was holding a knife to her throat while threatening to kill her.”
The victim said she tried to get away but was caught by Raper while trying to escape.
“She attempted to escape the residence by locking herself in a bathroom and trying to get out a window,” Thaxton said. “Mr. Raper broke open the door and drug her back into the bedroom.”
Thaxton said Raper started beating the woman again with his fists and threatened to kill her and himself.
In addition to assaulting her, Raper destroyed a door, computer and cellphone in her residence leading to the vandalism charge. He will be required to make restitution for the broken property as part of his sentence.
