After hearing proposals for revitalization of the Blue Building during a special called session Monday night at Milner Recreation Center, city officials decided to consider the information further before making a decision.
Members of the McMinnville Board of Mayor and Aldermen decided to wait until their next regular meeting before deciding which company to negotiate with regarding Blue Building development. That meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, Nov. 23.
The city could also decide not to negotiate with either company.
Both of the two main proposals under consideration are similar and involve turning the existing Blue Building structure into residential living quarters. Both plans also call for building around 40 townhouses on the property.
A plan by Investment Partners, which includes Bobby Kirby, Jewell Hale, and Lake Kirby, calls for putting 24 condominiums inside the Blue Building. These would likely be sold and not rented. Kirby said Monday night he was 99.9% sure the condos would be sold.
Hickory Creek Capital Partners of Knoxville is planning 40 units inside the Blue Building. These would be smaller living quarters, mainly one-bedroom units, and the company says it would seek government rent assistance under a low-incoming housing plan.
