Organizers of Petey’s Projects Playground had hoped to build the first all-inclusive playground in Warren County by September. Unfortunately the playground, set to be built at Hickory Creek Elementary, will not be built as the fundraising goal has not been met.Organizer Zach Sutton said approximately $50,000 of the needed $100,000 has been collected in funds and services.Plans drawn for the playground include non-mulch surfaces, ramps for wheelchairs and walkers, and motion and tactile equipment that will be fun for all children, but has been specially designed for children with autism and sensory disorders.Sutton encourages everyone to visit Smokin’ in McMinnville’s Charity BBQ this weekend and support team Stuffin’ Thangs whose winnings, if any, will go to Petey’s Projects Playground. Also, on Aug. 17, all proceeds from the McMinnville City Triathlon will go toward the playground.“With these opportunities, we hope we will close the gap on the project goal,” said Sutton.
