Eastside Elementary School’s effort to encourage washing hands to prevent illness this flu season by having students become teachers was a big success.Students up to third grade attended a class last week on how to properly wash their hands. Then, they were asked to take forms home and have them filled out by friends and family members who they taught. Each returned form was included in a drawing for a $25 gift certificate from Walmart.“We received 323 signed slips,” said school nurse Patricia Hiner. Of the slips, one returned by kindergarten student Bryton Rutledge earned him the gift certificate.Eastside nurse Terri Bryan says she was very pleased with the number of forms returned.
