Post office makes special delivery with food donation

The annual McMinnville Post Office food drive held last Saturday to benefit Warren County Emergency Food Bank was a huge success, says postmaster Brent Nunley.
“We were very pleased with the amount of food donated this year,” said Nunley. “It was a huge success. We collected and delivered to the food bank right at 10,000 pounds of food that will help stock the shelves and support the hungry in McMinnville and Warren County. I’m looking forward to another great drive next year to help end hunger in Warren County.”
There were some helping hands in this year’s effort, says Nunley.
“It would not have been possible without all the volunteers who gave of their Saturday for the cause,” he said. “I would like to say thank you to all the volunteers, the mail carriers, Exchange Furniture for helping with their truck to deliver the food, and to Caitlynn Arnold of Kids of the Community who gave her Saturday to help us as well.”
The food bank works through Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency and is meant to provide emergency food to people in need. However, money has been cut in all three areas that fund the food bank – state, county and local donations.
Nunley, who is also a board member of the Warren County Emergency Food Bank, says this year the organization will spend more on food and have less money coming in and he has reached out to the city of McMinnville for help.
“We are asking the city to consider funding the Warren County Emergency Food Bank when the budget is discussed,” he said. “I am passionate about feeding our hungry and I hope the board will be compassionate in its consideration.”
If you missed Saturday’s effort and want to donate nonperishable food items, the food bank is located on Red Road behind McMinnville Police Department. Days and times of operation are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
