There are literally millions of people in the region, and around the country, who visit Center Hill Lake every year, and they do so for many reasons – the fishing, boating and recreational opportunities of course, but also for the wildlife and sheer natural beauty.Center Hill Lake is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and comprises 33,551 land acres, 18,220 water acres, 43 recreational areas, nine marinas, 471 camping sites, and six swimming areas.Landscape photographer Bill Luton has been enamored with all the features the lake offers since he moved here several years ago, but especially with its unspoiled expanses of waterway, forests and wildlife. Luton and his wife, Kim, who works at the local UCHRA office, live in Smithville and Bill began taking advantage of the lake’s photographic opportunities almost immediately. He has taken thousands of photographs over the years and has now decided to publish a large-format book featuring 48 of his favorites among those images. Titled simply “The Lake,” the hardback book will be out in early December and will retail for $29.
