Time is running out to apply for the position of McMinnville Parks and Recreation director. The deadline to submit an application is this Friday, Feb. 17.
According to human resource administrator Jennifer Rigsby, over 40 applications have been received thus far. The salary range for the job is $45,000 to $85,000, and will be based on experience and qualifications.
“We’ve gotten some really good applications, so I don’t think we’re going to have any trouble filling this position,” Rigsby said, noting several local individuals have submitted applications.
The chosen candidate will fill the position left vacant by the retirement of longtime Parks and Recreation director Carlene Brown, who took a retirement buyout in September 2010, along with Planning and Zoning director Jim Brock.
Greg Wanamaker has been acting as interim director since that time.
According to the published job requirements, the city will be looking for an individual with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible supervisory or administrative experience in the management and operation of recreational facilities. The minimum training and education requirements include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Parks and Recreation or a similar degree.
The new director will be responsible for the general administration of the department’s operating budget and enforcement of city policies regarding employees, facility use, and overall supervision of the activities of the Parks and Recreation Department. The duties will include, but are not limited to, preparing the department’s operating budget, working with the city administrator and Parks and Recreation Committee to develop a capital plan and budget for the department, overseeing and coordinating the various programs offered at city facilities, and the ability to plan, organize, delegate, supervise and inspect work of subordinates.
The successful candidate will be examined by the city physician to determine if the applicant can perform all essential duties required of this position. Residency within the city is required within 90 days of employment.
In addition to the salary, the city offers a progressive benefit package that includes health insurance, dental, vision etc., and contributions to the state of Tennessee retirement plan.
Qualified people should submit an application, a résumé of experience and qualifications, a letter of interest, salary history and professional references to: Jennifer Rigsby, City of McMinnville, P.O. Box 7088, McMinnville, TN, 37111.
