A man will serve a half year behind bars for choking his girlfriend during a domestic dispute. The defendant, Bonifacio Morales Ordonez, 34, entered a guilty plea to the charge of aggravated assault and was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to serve 180 days of a two-year sentence. He is also to have no further contact with the victim in the case.Police say Ordonez hospitalized his girlfriend after assaulting her.“Her live-in boyfriend assaulted her by choking her until she passed out,” said McMinnville police officer Joseph Vanbommel in his felony warrant against Ordonez.Under a relatively new state law, domestic assaults which involve choking or attempted strangulation are now considered felonies. The officer said the assault wasn’t over even after the victim passed out.“When she came to, he was slamming her head into the floor and threatening to kill her,” Vanbommel said.
