Officer wrecks responding to call

A policewoman was injured Monday morning when she struck a utility pole near the bottom of Rebel Hill while responding to a call about a possible prowler.The officer, Leilani DeFore, was treated and released at River Park Hospital and returned to duty yesterday.DeFore was injured when she lost control of her Crown Victoria squad car as she was descending a hill and navigating a curve on Spring Street.“She was responding to what turned out to be an attempted burglary in the Westwood area,” said McMinnville Police Chief Bryan Denton, noting the highway patrol investigated the wreck which happened around 11:30 a.m. Monday.The wreck, which was all recorded by the patrol car’s onboard camera, happened when DeFore lost control on the rain-slick street. The car fishtailed and slammed against a utility pole with its back driverside quarterpanel. The force of the impact splintered the pole, which had to be replaced.
