Noise complaint leads to pot bust

A man smoking pot at an apartment building faces drug charges after two young children were found inside the same residence.
The suspect, Travis J. Davenport, 21, of Smithville will face hearing Tuesday before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke on the charge of simple possession of marijuana. There could be additional charges brought due to the fact there were two children, ages 3 and 5, inside the apartment. He has been ordered to be transported to DeKalb County Jail where he was being held on other charges.
Police went to the Yager Road apartment to answer a noise complaint when they came across the alleged marijuana party.
“I knocked on the door and a female peeked through the curtains on the door,” McMinnville police officer Corey Floyd recalled on his warrant against Davenport. “I could see two male subjects take off down the hallway.”
The policeman said he continued knocking on the door until the woman answered.
“When I entered I could smell a strong odor of marijuana,” the officer said, noting he asked the woman where the smell was coming from. “She stated that Travis Davenport had the marijuana and it was on his person.”
Her information proved correct as a small bag of the green leafy substance was found during his pat down.
