It’s textbook time again as school system officials decide what mathematics books to go with for county students.“Just like last time, we will have the books on display at the teacher center so anyone can come inspect them,” said Director of Schools Bobby Cox of the ongoing process to select new math books.Concern over Common Core and the political leanings of some textbook manufacturers led to some parents and grandparents questioning the school system’s past selection of textbooks. The protests led to the school system placing the proposed textbooks on display last year to promote openness in the selection process. That policy will continue with the math books, plus the selection will be made by a mix of teachers and parents.“Each committee will have one parent on it,” Cox announced, noting different committees will be considering separate grade levels.
