The McMinnville MS Walk, organized by River Park ICU nurse Heather George, will be held tomorrow at McMinnville Civic Center pavilion and trail. Registration will start at 9 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10:30 a.m.There will be a number of fundraising events during the day, including an auction, games for children and a special MS-themed handmade quilt giveaway with chances available for a $1 donation.George says the walk, which will be the first such event in McMinnville, has already raised around $15,000 for MS research to fight multiple sclerosis, a debilitating autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.According to the PubMed Health website, MS affects women more than men. The disorder is most commonly diagnosed between ages 20 and 40, but can be seen at any age.MS is caused by damage to the myelin sheath, the protective covering that surrounds nerve cells.
