It was definitely a small world in the lobby of Motlow State Community College on Wednesday. Students were treated to traditional food from 16 different countries.“This is probably the largest one we’ve had,” said Melody Edmonds, director at the McMinnville campus. There were booths depicting 16 nations — Italy, Greece, Japan, France, Russia, Afghanistan, China, United States, Germany, Costa Rica, Scotland, Australia, India, Jamaica, Ireland and Mexico — stationed around the lobby. Tables were decorated with cultural items, information, and food items.Baklava, vegetarian sushi, lasagna, rice and beans, coffee, meat pie, casserole, coconut cake, cheese and apple scones, shish kabob, corn beef, cheeseburger, smores, buttered chicken and cheeses were a few of the items offered. Some of the items were surprising in origin.“Coconut is very popular in India,” Komal Sheth said of why coconut cake was included on the table with authentic food from India.
