Monday travel a nightmare

Cars were finding ditches at a fever pitch Monday morning as an expected snowfall turned into an ice storm coating the county with a quarter-inch of solid ice.“We were constantly working wrecks Monday morning,” said McMinnville Police Chief Bryan Denton, who put out a weather advisory for motorists Monday, advising everyone to stay off the roads if possible. “We had to call in extra officers just to help work the wrecks. It got so bad at one point we had to close down Westwood Bridge they were piling up so bad.”Things were as bad or worse outside the city limits as deputies struggled to keep up with the calls.“We answered almost 200 calls Monday,” said Sheriff Jackie Matheny.
