Matt McColloch is ready to dive in as the new wellness and aquatics coordinator at McMinnville Civic Center. McColloch will fill the position previously held by Justin Scott, who is now the assistant director of McMinnville Parks and Recreation.
McColloch’s duties will be to oversee operations of the weight room and Gilley Pool, both located at the Civic Center complex. McColloch said he will also be involved with the Silver Sneakers program, but must be certified before he can oversee the exercise program which is geared toward senior citizens.
“I am very blessed and privileged to be able to step into this position. I am excited about what the future holds. I am looking forward to contributing to this recreation center and helping it grow and prosper,” said McColloch.
McColloch, a Warren County native, worked for seven summers as a lifeguard at Gilley Pool, three of those years serving as head lifeguard.
Scott said, “I’m excited to have him. He has been with me for seven years. I have seen him grow from a lifeguard to head lifeguard. Matt has grown as a person and as an employee. He is knowledgeable about the pool. And, his degree is exercise science which is essential for this job. I hope to assist him any way I can. I look forward to new ideas and programs he can bring to this department and make it grow.”
McColloch, 23, graduated in December from MTSU with a degree in exercise science. His minor was in nutrition.
His first day of work was Wednesday, Jan. 8.
