A Cotten Apartments man was gunned down in his home Friday night with his killer still on the loose. The victim, identified only as a 28-year-old Hispanic man pending notification of his next of kin who reside out of the country, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest inflicted by a 9 mm handgun. The assailant, also said to be a Hispanic man possibly driving a red vehicle, fled the scene before police arrived and remains at large.According to McMinnville Police Chief Bryan Denton, officers responded to a call of a gun shot fired around 9:30 p.m. and found the victim dead inside the apartment, located off Cascade Avenue. The apartment complex is just off Bybee Branch Road in an area heavily populated with apartments. The victim lived there along with several roommates, all of whom denied seeing the shooting or the assailant, saying they were in different parts of the small apartment and only heard the shot.“Right now details are sketchy and we’re continuing to do interviews in hopes of getting more information,” Chief Denton said, noting police investigated an armed home invasion at the same apartment complex a few months ago in which two Hispanic males were pistol whipped.
