A drunk driving suspect faces assault charges after he allegedly spit in the arresting officer’s face. The defendant, Harold Wayne Wolfenbarger, 35, will face hearing before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke on May 30 on charges of assault on an officer, resisting arrest, and DUI.His charges come after police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car in the Walmart parking lot.“We received a complaint about someone asleep in his vehicle with headlights on and airbags deployed,” recalled McMinnville patrolman Corey Floyd, noting the vehicle appeared to have been involved in a recent accident given the signs of damage they noted and the airbag deployment.Police said they determined the suspect’s keys were in his pocket when they woke him from his slumber.“He admitted to consuming alcohol,” said Floyd, adding the suspect failed his field sobriety tests. “He became belligerent and resisted arrest.”Floyd said the issues escalated after Wolfenbarger arrived at jail.“He began making verbal threats to fatally harm me and my family,” the officer said, noting Wolfenbarger then spit in his face.
