A man caught shoplifting at Walmart after being banned from the store for past thefts has been given a year in jail. The shoplifter, Dustin Lynn Burgess, entered a guilty plea before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to the charge of theft over $1,000. He was ordered to serve 360 days of a three-year sentence, perform 50 hours public service work, pay $75 plus costs, undergo a drug and alcohol assessment and must stay away from Walmart. His sentence comes after he and a female friend were caught trying to leave Walmart with over $1,000 worth of items they did not pay for. The items included three SonicCare toothbrushes, a Samsung Surveillance camera, a Lego set, a trail camera and air compressor.“They pushed the buggy into the garden department and Mr. Burgess pushed it out to the vehicle,” said Cole Russell of Walmart Loss Prevention. While leaving the scene with the stolen items, the two were caught at the Walmart in Smithville and the property they had taken from the McMinnville store was recovered.
