Two men were injured, one critically, when their vehicle ran off rain-slick Old Shelbyville Road, throwing both victims out of the rolling wreckage Thursday night. The driver, Matthew Burrows, 24, was treated and released at River Park Hospital. His passenger, Tyler Young, 31, was critically injured and airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.According to highway patrolman Donnie Clark, the wreck happened around 8:40 p.m. near the Poss Road intersection, which is just before Laws Road, the road where Pistole Park is located.“The driver lost control while negotiating a curve,” trooper Clark said, noting it was raining at the time and the road was wet. After losing control, the 1990 Toyota 4-Runner ran off the road, onto the shoulder and through a ditch causing it to roll once, ejecting both men as it rolled. The vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the road with its wheels in the air.“There was alcohol present at the scene but we don’t know yet if it was involved in the crash,” Clark said, noting an investigation is continuing.
