Main Street McMinnville held its annual membership meeting last week at Magness Library. New board members were installed for the upcoming year.
“It’s been a great year,” said Main Street McMinnville executive director Carla King. “It’s been one of our best years ever. Our goal is to bring people into downtown to help support the businesses and I think we accomplished that.”
In attendance were annual sponsors, downtown business owners, and government officials, as well as incoming and outgoing board members.
Leaving the 2011-12 board are Rodney Boyd, Martha Pierce, Jean Marsh, Dawn Cantrell and Bill Cathcart. Each outgoing member received a certificate for their service to the organization from organization treasurer Rachel Killebrew.
Taking the open places on the board for the upcoming 2012-13 year will be Charlie Johnson, Tracy Martin, Shonda Alexander, Debbie Sain and Valerie Wells. New members were nominated and accepted by members of Main Street McMinnville.
President Randy Garrison conducted the meeting and spoke on the wonderful state of Main Street McMinnville. He says Main Street McMinnville is in great shape and he looks forward to big things in the upcoming year.
King presented the group with a list of the organization’s achievements over the last year, which included facade and awning grants awarded for many downtown buildings, additional funding from the city, and three grants awarded from the Tech-REDI program from Tennessee Tech University for updated downtown brochures and office equipment.
Also, just completed was a successful Main Street Live summer concert series. The series is in its eighth year and attracted more than 10,000 into the downtown area to enjoy the concerts.
