A woman was killed and her passenger seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Vervilla Road late Sunday night.
Kristin Beth Luna, 24, was fatally injured when her car was struck by an oncoming pickup driven by Jonathan Meyer, 27, at the intersection of Vervilla Road and Engle Boulevard. Luna’s passenger, Jeffrey "Sawyer" Fults, 24, was rushed to River Park Hospital and later transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of critical injuries. Meyer escaped serious injury.
According to preliminary reports, the wreck happened at 11:50 p.m. Sunday night. Highway Patrolman Joshua Sparkman’s investigation revealed Luna was heading southbound on Engle Boulevard and failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of Engle and Vervilla, an intersection located less than a mile past Warren County High School.
Her 2006 Suzuki Forenza pulled into the path of an oncoming 2005 Chevy Silverado driven by Meyer, who was heading west on Vervilla Road away from McMinnville. The Luna vehicle was hit in the driver’s side. The impact threw the pickup into a nearby field, while the Luna car came to rest in a ditch.
Neither Luna nor her passenger were wearing seatbelts. Investigators say they do not believe alcohol, drugs or high speeds were factors in the crash. An investigation is continuing by the Highway Patrol.
