Thanks to Caring Hearts United representatives, Three Star Mall is getting a little more festive with the group's 12th annual Wonderland of Trees.
"Caring Hearts helps hospice with cancer patients. For five major holidays out of the year, we make gift baskets. The gift baskets contain something the patient can use, something they can eat and something to make them smile or keep them busy such as word search books. We include things like skid-free socks, hand sanitizers and Kleenex. At Christmas, we give blankets and Little Debbies. We also like to include something for the caregivers, such as gas cards or food cards," said volunteer Judy Petit.
Wonderland of Trees is the group's largest fundraiser of the year which helps fund these efforts. "Last year we were so blessed to raise around $14,000," said Caring Hearts secretary, Loretta Turner. "It takes us about a week to put it all together. We have 30 trees donated so far, the most we've had. Businesses, churches and individuals donate trees, wreaths, centerpieces and hand-crafted items that are sold through silent auction."
Caring Hearts member Cathy Roberts added, "Last year we had a bidding war. The Ben Lomand tree went for $1,000."
"The one thing we need is volunteers to help sell tickets and fill in the heart tree, where people can place an ornament in honor or memory of a loved one and to help sell baked goods," Turner said.
Wonderland of Trees begins Monday and will run through Nov. 19 at Three Star Mall from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
