Law enforcement officials were able to successfully find a 35-year-old woman on Thursday who they thought was carrying a gun with the intent to do harm.
After a search of more than an hour, the woman was located in a field off Smithville Highway without a gun. She cooperated with officers and was taken for a mental health evaluation.
The incident began Thursday when the woman got in an argument with her husband. She then made statements to her husband and another family member she was leaving to shoot people and then shoot herself.
The situation intensified when the husband went to look for his gun and it was missing. Law enforcement was notified and officers with McMinnville Police Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Department began scouring the area.
The woman was found in a field and without a gun. The gun was eventually located in a different part of the home.
McMinnville Police Lt. Mark Mara says the woman cooperated with officers and no force was used to take her into custody. She is not being identified because she is not charged with a crime.
“She was having some mental health issues so we took her to get some help,” said Mara. “This was a search and rescue operation that highlighted the work of our Crisis Intervention Team. McMinnville Police Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Department were able to work together to locate this woman in an efficient manner. Our concern was preventing her from doing harm, either to herself or to someone else.”
