Warren County Sheriff’s Department is looking for suspects responsible for a break-in over the weekend.
McMinnville Mercantile on Smithville Highway was targeted Sunday night.
“I came by Sunday evening at about 4 p.m. to check on the store and everything was fine,” said Mel Dixon, owner of McMinnville Mercantile. “I came in Monday morning at about 9:15 and the front door was busted in so this occurred sometime Sunday night. It looked like they took a sledge hammer to the door knob.”
Cash and other items were taken.
“It’s very difficult to tell exactly what was taken. It might take a few days,” said Dixon of the warehouse that is as long as a football field. “I’ve determined what a few items were and I’ve given that list to the very kind deputies who were here this morning. They took pictures of everything.”
The office was vandalized, says Dixon, with draws opened and items thrown about the room.
“Hopefully, the Sheriff’s Department can figure out who did it,” said Dixon. “It’s just disheartening that someone could do such a thing.”
