Construction at Warren County Middle School hit a recent snag, or rather an electrical line.
An electrical setback has added more time to a project that’s now not estimated to be complete until November.
In discussing the WCMS renovation project at last week’s School Board meeting, Director of Schools Dr. Grant Swallows said, “There are several more issues with that building. We had an accident where we hit an electric line and that has caused considerable problems in that building because it tore up some breakers and different things have gone on so they’re struggling with that, but they’re still making progress.”
Swallows said he took a tour of the middle school on Thursday.
“I was in the boys and girls bathrooms today on the eighth grade hall and they finally have countertops set so really the sinks are the only thing left in that. Hopefully by Aug. 1 when we have our annual session over there we’ll have working bathrooms in that part of the building.”
Swallows addressed the extent of work being done at WCMS.
“There is so much work going on at that building. There is a roof going on, the windows are going in, the bathrooms are still being done. The addition in the front is still going on and so if you see one of the custodians who work in that building hug them, because every time they clean something, a mess comes right behind it. My excuse that this is the price of progress is kind of wearing thin. They are ready to move on and I get that.”
Some of the first new windows have been installed in classrooms and Swallows said it makes a drastic improvement.
The parking lot at WCMS will need extensive work once construction is complete. Swallows talked about redesigning the parking lot to take into account the addition in the front.
Parking lot redesign is also scheduled for Eastside to help with standing water near the office.
