Warren County High School’s Chapter of National Honor Society (NHS) is collecting children’s books for the Hamilton Street Community Center as its fall service project. The drive lasts through Nov. 21.
NHS chose to support the Hamilton Street Activity Center at its September meeting and decided to run a book drive after speaking with the community center’s director, Lisa Harvey, about the center’s needs.
Members of NHS got to work securing a location to collect donations and making flyers to be posted across the WCHS campus and the Warren County area.
“Early reading helps to promote language development, academic success, lifelong learning, imagination and focus, among other things,” Jessica Akers, advisor for the WCHS chapter, said. “The goal of this book drive is to help pique children’s interest in reading by providing them a variety of content such as history, life lessons, different perspectives and entertainment through these donations.”
This project is not the first contribution NHS has made to the Warren County community. In previous years they have performed projects for Viola Valley Dogs, HOME and McMinnville Special Games.
Books can be donated at the First Baptist Church or by contacting any member of NHS. The group is hoping to collect 1,000 books to the activity center and present the donations on Nov. 22.
